Maria Frsn

Maria Frsn, also known as Professor Kavallaris, is a distinguished senior research scientist specializing in cancer biology and therapeutics with a strong focus on advocating for medical research.

As an innovative leader in medical and health sciences, Professor Kavallaris co-founded the Australian Centre for NanoMedicine at UNSW Australia in 2011 to advance the convergence of cancer therapeutics and diagnostics for improved disease survival rates.

Her groundbreaking work includes significant contributions to understanding cancer therapy mechanisms and resistance, leading to the development of novel and less toxic cancer treatments using nanotechnology.

With a rich history of fellowship awards, NHMRC and ARC grant funding, and active involvement in government funding panels and editorial boards, Professor Kavallaris has been a key figure in shaping medical research policies and initiatives.

Her contributions have been widely recognized through various prestigious awards such as the 2017 NSW Premier's Science and Engineering Prize for Leadership in Innovation and the 2020 NSW Premier's Woman of the Year.
