Maria Beconi has over 20 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry as a research and development executive. She has worked with start-up companies, large pharmaceuticals, and virtual organizations to develop and discover therapeutics for a variety of therapeutic areas, rare diseases, and multiple targets. She has a strong educational background in biochemistry and animal science with a PhD from Michigan State University and an MS from the University of Kentucky.

Maria's expertise is in all aspects of R&D operations, new product planning, and alliance management. She has successfully built infrastructure, pipeline, scientific competencies, and partnerships with academia, non-for-profits, and commercial organizations. At Disc Medicine, Maria is a Senior Vice President of Translational R&D, and formerly served as the Chief Scientific Officer and Vice President of Preclinical Development of Retrophin Inc. She was also the Director of Non-Clinical Safety at CHDI Foundation and founded KAB DMPK Strategies.
