Fixed Networks are the corner stone of the digital infrastructure as fixed broadband, backhaul of any type of wireless communication, data center networking, and in new applications for optical communication like industrial and vertical scenarios. Fixed 5G (F5G) is moving optical networking to the next level through extending it further to the very edge (Fibre to the Room, Fibre to the Desk, Fibre to the Machine, ...), increase its functionality for massive connectivity and ultra-high reliability for new sets of applications taking end-to-end into account, and enable higher operational efficiency through automation using AI and cloud-technologies, and energy-saving using optical instead of electrical components.
