Marcus Baker

Marcus Baker is a senior engineer at Sensat, specializing in developing a visualization platform for the building industry, merging 3D graphics with Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

With a background in transitioning start-ups to stable companies, Marcus has a strong foundation in system building, various programming languages, testing, databases, code quality, and high discipline agile development.

His expertise spans various areas including 3D graphics, GIS, large-scale social media data processing, massive video storage and rendering, software architecture, and low-level coding in languages such as C.

In addition to his professional work, Marcus has a rich history of contributions to the tech community. He co-founded PHP London, initiated the UK PHP conference, and created/co-created several open-source projects like CGreen, SimpleTest, and Phemto. He has also written programming columns, reviewed technical books, and collaborated on notable books like Manning's "PHP in Action" and O'Reilly's "97 Things Every Programmer Should Know".

An early adopter of agile methodologies, Marcus was involved in implementing eXtreme Programming back in 2001. Known as 'lastcraft' in developer forums, he excels in lead and database development roles, object-oriented analysis and design, and agile practices like Scrum.

Marcus holds educational qualifications including a PGCE in Teaching from King's College London and a degree in Physics from Imperial College London, alongside his earlier education at John Newnham Sixth Form College and Riddlesdown High School.
