Marcelia Nicholson is a prominent political figure serving as the Chairwoman of the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors. She was first elected to the board in 2016, representing the 10th District, and has held the position of Chairwoman since 2020. Background and Education
Born and raised in Milwaukee, Nicholson has a strong commitment to her community. She is an honors graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication/Media Studies, and also holds a Master’s degree in Elementary Education from Lakeland College.35 Before entering politics, she worked as a fourth-grade teacher and was actively involved in union organizing, particularly with the Milwaukee Teachers Education Association (MTEA).34

During her tenure, Nicholson has focused on issues such as racial equity, economic development, and community empowerment. She has authored significant legislation including:
- A $15 living wage ordinance.
- An eviction reduction program.
- The establishment of Juneteenth Day as a major holiday in Milwaukee County.
- A declaration recognizing racism as a public health crisis, making Milwaukee County the first in the nation to do so.234
Under her leadership, the board has also made strides in funding initiatives aimed at affordable housing and community services. In July 2024, she was re-elected by a supermajority to continue her role for another term.1
