Manolis Kellis
Professor at MIT and Broad Institute. Genomics, Computational Biology, Disease Genetics
Manolis Kellis is a dedicated Professor of Computer Science at the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He is an esteemed member of the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, as well as the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab at MIT, serving as the head of the MIT Computational Biology Group. Manolis's primary research interests span various areas such as disease genetics, epigenomics, gene circuitry, non-coding RNAs, comparative genomics, and phylogenetics.
With an impressive academic background, Manolis Kellis holds a Ph.D. from MIT, where he was honored with the Sprowls award for the best doctoral thesis in computer science. Prior to his current roles, Manolis has lived in Greece and France before settling in the United States. He has a strong publication record, with over 230 journal articles to his credit, collectively cited over 115,000 times.
Apart from his scholarly contributions, Manolis Kellis has been instrumental in steering several large-scale genomics initiatives, including the Roadmap Epigenomics project, comparative analyses involving multiple mammalian species, the human and Drosophila Encyclopedia of DNA Elements (ENCODE) project, and the Genotype Tissue-Expression (GTEx) project. He has received notable accolades for his contributions, such as the US Presidential Early Career Award in Science and Engineering (PECASE), the NSF CAREER award, and the prestigious Alfred P. Sloan Fellowship.
In addition to his academic roles, Manolis has also been associated with other organizations. He was previously a Co-Founder at Secure AI Labs, a Postdoctoral Associate at the Broad Institute, and a Research Intern at PARC. Through his various endeavors, Manolis Kellis continues to be a leading figure in the field of computational biology and genomics.
