    Mac Cowell is a seasoned professional with a diverse background in the field of biotechnology and software development. Graduating from Davidson College with a degree in Biology, Mac has been involved in various innovative projects and organizations. He has played key roles in propelling advancements in molecular biology, bioinformatics, and public engagement with science. Mac's expertise spans from running iGEM.org at MIT to founding diybio.org and establishing the Boston Open Source Science Lab. He has conducted research on gene patents at the Berkman Center at Harvard Law School and developed DNA sequencing tools at cofactorbio.com. Mac's entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish Genefoo, a molecular biology supply company focused on catering to students, teachers, hackers, and individual researchers. He has also contributed to interactive experiences in biotechnology, including designing the wetlab portion of the Tech Museum of San Jose's biotechnology exhibit. As a SynBioLeap Fellow in 2015, Mac delved into studying companies and technologies facilitating low-cost lab automation and quality assurance for small teams.
