Luke Hesson
Senior Genetics Scientist at Douglass Hanly Moir Pathology
Luke Hesson is a Senior Genetics Scientist at Douglass Hanly Moir Pathology and a visiting scientist at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research.123 He was previously a senior lecturer at UNSW Sydney.1 Hesson holds a doctorate in Clinical Genetics from The University of Birmingham UK and is a Fellow of the Faculty of Science of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA).2
Hesson has 20 years’ experience investigating the genetic and epigenetic causes of cancer with >80 peer-reviewed publications and has contributed to knowledge of the genes and types of molecular alterations that contribute to a range of diseases.2 This includes the development of clinically accredited genetic tests for use by pathology laboratories.2 He provides scientific supervision of the Molecular Genetics Department.2 He also lectures in genetics, epigenetics, cancer, pathology, and personalised medicine at UNSW Sydney.2
Hesson has been awarded $4M AUD in funding as Chief Investigator.2 Some of his projects include:
