Louroz Mercader
Louroz Mercader, a veteran city builder and communications professional in the public and non-profit sectors, is the Manager of the York Eglinton Business Improvement Area (BIA). As the lead of the BIA's new strategic plan, Mr. Mercader is responsible for driving the proposed streetscape projects and overseeing critical projects relating to construction for the Eglinton LRT Crosstown.
Prior to joining the York Eglinton BIA as a Manager, Louroz served as the Manager of Communications and Public Engagement at Waterfront Toronto, where he played an essential role in the Sidewalk Toronto initiative, a joint project by Waterfront Toronto and Alphabet’s Sidewalk Labs to establish an innovative kind of mixed-use, complete community on Toronto's Eastern Waterfront.
Previously, Louroz worked as a Career Counsellor and Job Developer at Youth Employment Services, where he spearheaded new partnerships with employers across the Toronto Region to create placement opportunities and work experiences for youth. Louroz was the former Executive Director of the Mississauga Youth Games and served on the boards of ACCESS: Allowing Children a Chance at Education, RISE Tribe, and Ashworth Square Cooperative Housing.
Louroz has received several awards, including the Ontario Medal for Young Volunteers from the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario and the 2009 Diverse City Fellowship, which demonstrates his unwavering commitment to community building, youth leadership development, and public service. He holds a Public Relations diploma from Humber College.
