In 2008, the global Maersk organisation moved into a Cluster structure (group of countries) which reported into a Regional head. Globally, there were 48 clusters, of which Belgium/Luxemburg was one. As Managing Director, I had the overall responsibility of the Belgian Cluster of both the Maersk Line & Safmarine brand, with following departments reporting to me: Sales, Customer Service, Trade & Marketing, Finance, HR, Operations and Process Excellence.

Our organisation moved into a functional structure within Central Europe, with Head office in Hamburg. During this period I was the Sales Director as well as the Branch Manager for the Belgian organisation.

Deputy Line Manager (with Line Manager located in Rotterdam for the Benelux-organisation) and was responsible for all commercial activities in the Antwerp office.

I joined Maersk Line Antwerp as Import Manager, 6 months after the merger between Maersk & Sealand. This merger was not a smooth transition, with broken processes, staff resigning, demotivated remaining staff and dissatisfied customers. My main focus was on re-establishing the staff-movation and fixing a broken process, so we could again offer a stable product & service to our customers.

In above 3 companies I acted as Sales Representative and successfully grew the customer base and increased Share of Wallet from existing customers. After being involved in different trade lanes, I gradually focused on the Far East – Europe Trade, and was recognised in the Shipping Community as an expert.
