Lindsay Blackwell

Lindsay Blackwell is a dedicated researcher with a focus on detecting, preventing, and penalizing online harassment and hate speech through various research methods.

In her recent position as the primary researcher for Facebook's Hate Speech and Violence & Incitement teams, Lindsay delved into issues concerning bias, fairness, and severity in automatically identifying and assessing harmful online content, directly impacting the social media platform's machine learning models, enforcement systems, and policies.

Her academic journey includes a Bachelor of Arts in English with Honors Linguistics from the University of Michigan and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Information Science/Studies from the same institution.

Throughout her career, Lindsay has held various roles, including Senior User Researcher at Twitter, UX Researcher at Facebook and Oculus VR, UX Research Intern at Facebook, Assistant Director of Social Media, Social Media Manager, and Social Media Director at various marketing and digital media organizations, showcasing a diverse skill set and experience across different domains.
