Lily Mei is the current Mayor of Fremont, California, having taken office on December 13, 2016. She is notable for being the first elected woman and Asian American mayor in the city's history. Her current term is set to end on December 10, 2024. Before serving as mayor, Mei was a member of the Fremont City Council and a trustee on the Fremont Unified School Board.12
In addition to her role as mayor, Lily Mei serves as the Chair of the Mayors' Education Task Force at the National League of Cities (NLC), a position she has held since March 2020. This task force aims to foster partnerships among city officials, school districts, and community organizations to support youth success.23 Mei has also been involved in various other initiatives, including serving on the United States Conference of Mayors Advisory Board and leading efforts focused on homelessness and transportation infrastructure.2
