Li Lu
Director at Directors Guild of America
Li Lu is an accomplished filmmaker and a director at the Directors Guild of America (DGA). Born in Suzhou, China, she moved to the United States at the age of five. She has a diverse upbringing, having lived on all three coasts of the U.S., and graduated from Sugar Land High School in Texas before earning her BA from the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts.12
Lu is known for her award-winning work in both narrative and documentary filmmaking. Her debut feature film, There Is a New World Somewhere, received multiple Best Feature awards, while her teleplay Razorhurst won Best Teleplay at HBO’s Skyway Film Festival. Currently, she is working on a documentary titled A Town Called Victoria, which focuses on an arson incident involving a Texas mosque and has received support from various organizations including the Sundance Institute.13
In addition to her filmmaking, Lu has been actively involved with the DGA, having served as a delegate at its biennial convention.3 Her work often emphasizes social impact and representation of minorities in media, showcasing her commitment to creating bold and meaningful narratives.2
