Leed Bj Siegel
Co-Founder and Head of Design at Juno
BJ Siegel, LEED AP, is the Co-Founder and Head of Design at Juno, a mass-timber housing company.1 He previously worked for 19 years at Apple, most recently as the senior design director of real estate and development.1 At Juno, Siegel aims to revolutionize the housing industry by applying product design principles to building construction.1
Siegel, along with co-founder Jonathan Scherr, has developed a modular system of about 33 components that can be assembled to create various housing blocks.1 This system is designed to take advantage of design efficiencies and economies of scale while allowing for continuous improvement.1
Juno's approach involves:
- Designing projects meant to be built repeatedly using components
- Setting up a decentralized third-party supply chain
- Providing instructions and tools for project assembly1
The company's first project, a five-story 24-unit residential block in Austin, Texas, has recently broken ground.1 Juno is also working on larger projects in Seattle and Denver.1 All of Juno's housing will be built using mass timber above a podium level, though they are not using cross-laminated timber (CLT).1
Siegel's experience at Apple, where he focused on craftsmanship, customer experience, speed, and environmental responsibility, has informed Juno's approach to housing design and construction.1
