Leandro Buchmann
Leandro Buchmann, Ph.D., is a Project Manager Biotechnology at Bühler Group in Winterthur, Zurich, Switzerland.1 He completed his doctoral project on pulsed electric fields (PEF) process development and applications at ETH Zurich in the Sustainable Food Processing Laboratory under the supervision of Prof. Alexander Mathys.2 Buchmann's research focused on innovative upstream processes to increase the competitiveness of photoautotrophic microalgae biorefinery concepts, particularly using nanosecond pulsed electric field (nsPEF) treatment.2
His work has contributed to the field of sustainable food processing, with a focus on:
- Increasing cell proliferation in prokaryotic microalgae (Arthrospira platensis) using nsPEF treatment2
- Developing closed biorefinery approaches combining nsPEF and conventional PEF applications2
- Energy input assessment for nanosecond pulsed electric field processing2
Buchmann has published several papers on these topics and has presented his research at international conferences.2 His work aims to address challenges in sustainable food supply for a growing world population, particularly through the use of microalgae-based systems.2
