    Dr. Lawrence T. Potter, Jr., is an accomplished educator with nearly 20 years' experience in various faculty and administrative roles at both private and public institutions.

    In February 2019, Dr. Potter assumed the role of Chief Academic Officer/Provost at the University of the District of Columbia, bringing his wealth of knowledge as a scholar and leader to the institution.

    Known for his entrepreneurial approach and collaborative style, Dr. Potter aims to enhance the educational experiences of students, support faculty and staff, and contribute to the University of La Verne's 2020 Strategic Vision.

    Previously, Dr. Potter served as the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts at Jackson State University in Mississippi, overseeing 300 faculty and staff and approximately 2,200 undergraduate and graduate students.

    He has a strong commitment to serving first-generation students from diverse populations and prioritizes faculty development, consensus building, transparency, and fairness in his leadership.

    With a background in English and African-American literature, Dr. Potter has held roles such as associate dean and chief diversity officer at Allegheny College, and as a scholar at the University of St. Thomas and Western Michigan University.
