"Talk to the Can" is an innovative way to communicate with a teenage audience about Coca-Cola products and the Coca-Cola company's community initiatives regarding sustainability.  The screen of  a mobile device becomes a "magic window" through which users can view information and videos triggered by the image of a soft drink can.

The course is designed to lead students to develop a global perspective through encountering primary texts in western and non-western philosophy.  The art of Socratic dialogue is central to achieving the goal of the course, which is to enable students to move freely between different cultural worlds by having developed an understanding of the essential concepts and ideas embodied in each culture.

“The Interpretation of Scripture in Hobbes’s Leviathan:  The Achievement of Piety in Modern Secular Politics.”  Hobbes presents a Calvinist understanding of faith that is the basis for his doctrine of sovereignty.  Hobbes’s definition of piety as obedience to the sovereign in matters of religion mitigates the divisive effects of superstition in public life.  The story of man’s common destiny presented in scripture orients the sovereign toward civilizing his nation.
