Laurence Wattrus is a seasoned professional heading up the hardware and product development at Hammerhead with a unique approach of 'Build from discovery, discover from building'. With a passion for cycling and photography, Laurence's philosophy centers around continuous learning and pushing past the status quo.
Laurence boasts an impressive array of specialties including product and innovation strategy, startup development, manufacturing processes, business strategy, manufacturing optimization, market research, systems' evaluation, mechanical design, and team management.
His educational background is marked by a Master of Science (M.S.) in Engineering focusing on Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship from Brown University, complemented by extension courses at UCLA. He also holds a BSc in Electro-Mechanical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cape Town along with a High School Matriculant certification from St. John's College in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Throughout his career, Laurence has been associated with esteemed organizations such as Hammerhead, where he served as Co-Founder & Head of Program Management. His tenure includes roles at TechStars as a Hammerhead Co-Founder, alongside prominent engineering internships at Emcore, Bourns, Honeywell, and Conbrako. He also apprenticed as a welding apprentice at DCD Dorbyl and explored his photography skills in a self-employed capacity.
