    Laurel Broten is a highly experienced public policy expert, lawyer, and advocate, currently serving as the President and CEO of Nova Scotia Business Inc. (NSBI). She has a distinguished background, having held various senior positions in the Government of Ontario from 2003 to 2013, including Minister of Education, Minister of the Environment, and Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, among others. Laurel is also the former President and CEO of Broten Public Policy International Inc., where she provided strategic advice on public policy challenges to clients in Canada and abroad.

    Laurel's educational background includes a Juris Doctor degree with distinction from the University of Western Ontario, as well as Bachelor's degrees in Psychology and Biology from McMaster University. She began her career as a commercial and civil litigation lawyer before transitioning into government service.

    Aside from her professional roles, Laurel is actively involved in various boards and organizations, including the Public Policy Forum, the International Women’s Forum, and Mount Saint Vincent University. She has received several prestigious awards throughout her career, such as Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 – CIBC Trailblazers and Trendsetters award in 2017.

    In addition to her professional achievements, Laurel is a dedicated wife and mother to twin sons. Her husband, Paul Laberge, is the Vice President Corporate Development at Emera Inc.
