In 2022, after six years in radio reporting, I embarked on a new path—boxing. What began as a personal hobby quickly evolved into a professional path. Within a year of joining Prevail Boxing in West Hollywood as a member, I was hired as a studio assistant, before advancing to the role of studio manager.

Driven by a commitment to exceptional hospitality and personal excellence, I immersed myself in all aspects of business management and operations. Overseeing a vibrant community of several hundred members, I prioritized personalized care and attention for each individual. Drawing on my background in journalism, I conducted thorough research to anticipate member needs, tracked key metrics, and developed communications strategies to achieve organizational objectives.

Through close collaboration with internal and external partners, I fostered a uniquely supportive community atmosphere that inspired members to pursue their self-excellence. I'm an independent audio producer with 8+ years of experience. My responsibilities run the full gamut of podcast production from pitching to booking, conducting interviews, cutting tape, writing narrative scripts as well as producing two-way interview shows, sound-designing, fact-checking, and conducting quality control checks. I'm also well-versed in the promotion of podcasts, with experience collaborating with advertisers, talent agencies, and publishers.

I work with a team of producers, editors, hosts, sound designers, and fact-checkers to produce Overheard: National Geographic's flagship podcast. Overheard tells stories of our big, weird, and beautiful world, as told through conversations you'd "overhear" at NG's headquarters. 

My responsibilities run from soup to nuts: I pitch original ideas, and I also source them from the magazine and translate them to audio. I also storyboard our episodes, identify interview guests, pre-interview them, and then prep my hosts for the interviews. Then, I write scripts, cut audio, and work with our sound designer.

National Geographic

Audio Producer 

I developed and piloted the first editorial podcast for LinkedIn called Hello Monday with Jessi Hempel. 

Each week, Editor-at-Large Jessi Hempel sat down with a different expert from the business world for a recorded conversation. I produced interviews with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella on balancing family and work, and with two-time Olympian and US Women's soccer champion Abby Wambach on how to work as a team player. 

My responsibilities included every part of the production process, from piloting different episode structures, to working with a composer to develop new theme music, to determining the structure of the show, to booking guests, cutting audio, working with a sound designer, and uploading the final piece online.

At WSJ, I produce podcasts soup to nuts.

-Pitch stories, book interviews, prepare questions, conduct pre-interviews, set up tape syncs, ISDNs, and voice memo recordings
-Conduct interviews both in-studio and out in the field
-Correct transcripts run through AI software including Trint and Sonix, then identify and cut selects
-Organize selects into a tape assembly, which eventually becomes a Pro Tools session
-Write scripts, from cold opens, to kickers, to titles, to scenes, to credits
-Conduct table reads and edit sessions among producers, and then incorporate edits
-Mix episodes – heads and tails, levels, de-noising, p-pops, de-essing, ambient sound, B-roll, breaths, EQ, hard limiting
-Fact-check script and write the episode’s hed and dek
-Conduct a final quality-control check of the episode before it enters the Broadcast Content Editor

Digital Audio Producer and Reporter

I'm an associate producer with Gimlet Media's Crimetown – a series about Providence, Rhode Island, where organized crime and corruption infected every aspect of public life. 

-Work in Pro Tools to pull selects, clip group tape, input tracking and retracking. If a fellow producer needs Interviewee A saying “but,” I’ll pull 10 different examples so as to provide 10 different options. 
-Participate in edit meetings twice a week, as well as writing sessions
-Organize an archival library from hundreds of hours of audio and video, with summaries of each piece of archival, highlights and selects I picked, and instructions as to where to find each piece of archival, all separated by episodes 
-Listen to each bounce, provide further edit notes, and participate in the quality control process of each final draft 
-Format transcripts of each episode for the website 
-Prepare interview questions for the hosts before reporting trips to Providence
-Produce audio snippets known as “character quotes” for the website 
-Produce first drafts of bonus episodes during bye weeks 
-Digitize cassette tapes, as well as VHS tapes and import these files into Pro Tools 
-Log and transcribe interviews and other pieces of archival tape

Associate Producer

Interning under Slate Plus, Slate's membership program on both audio projects, as well as editorial pieces. Current project: completing the first season of The United States of Debt, a series that takes an in-depth look at the reality of owing money in America: how we get into debt, and how we can get out. As a part of a three-person team, we've been following the stories of seven diverse people who have been affected by four kinds of debt: student loans, medical debt, credit card debt, and housing debt.

Responsibilities include writing podcast scripts, fact checking, conducting research, pitching stories, sitting in on editorial meetings, and mixing tape.

Editorial & Audio Intern

Manage email account for Millennial, a podcast voted #14 by the Atlantic in their list of 2015's best podcasts. During this time, I’ve seen the show grow into its second season, join the Radiotopia network, and average 100,000 downloads per episode. Millennial is a show about what people never teach you – how to navigate your twenties. As the show’s Production Assistant, I begin with managing the show’s email account, where hundreds of listeners send in their story pitches and also write in about possible business opportunities. From these emails, I find promising leads for upcoming episodes and form pitches, which I then deliver at weekly pitch meetings. After my supervisor signs off on the strongest pitches, I then contact the original listener to conduct a pre-interview.

Worked under the Head Conservationist to help preserve and restore dated artwork. Also recorded all conservation activities in the Getty database and digitized reports from the 1960’s-1980’s for electronic access.
