Essential duties include, promoting, curating, installing, and selling artwork, and acting as a liaison between artist members and patrons. 

Create a calendar of events that includes exhibitions, lectures, demonstrations, gallery talks, educational classes, and special events. 

Responsible for the smooth daily running of the gallery, and recruiting and supervising assistants and interns.

Responsible for the selection and execution of an annual cycle of exhibitions, which may include curating an exhibition, or selecting a guest curator. 

Oversees processes for checking condition of works when they arrive and leave the gallery. Oversees the preparation of condition reports on the works.

Supervises safe unpacking of works of art upon their arrival in the gallery and packing of works at the end of exhibitions.

Designs and supervises installation of exhibitions.

Writes wall label copy, wall text, brochure text, and/or exhibition catalogue text as necessary. Edits and proofreads all text written by self or guest curators.

Develops promotional materials for exhibition including press releases, invitation/announcements, educational brochures, and posters. Manages gallery website. 

Personally contacts art critics, feature editors, calendar editors, and special interest groups about exhibits.

Organizes and arranges all public programming in connection with exhibits (opening receptions, lectures, demonstrations, workshops, class visits, and tours).

Recruits, interviews, hire, train, and supervise employees.

Actively involved in the dissemination of knowledge to general audiences through gallery visits, lectures, and other public programs. Collaborates with staff to organize and carry out related programming. 

Visits museums, commercial galleries, and artists’ studios, and attends talks and conferences to keep abreast of art scene and to prepare future projects. 

Conducts research in libraries and archives to prepare exhibitions and programs.
