Kristian Hammond

Professor of Computer Science at Northwestern University / Director of The Center for Advancing Safety of Machine Intelligence (CASMI)

Kristian Hammond is the Bill and Cathy Osborn Professor of Computer Science at Northwestern University and the co-founder of the AI company Narrative Science, acquired by Salesforce in 2021.

His expertise lies in bridging the human/machine communication gap, focusing on making machines smarter and unlocking information from data.

As of 2016, he leads Northwestern University's CS + X initiative, exploring how computational thinking can transform various fields like law, medicine, and education.

Kristian also oversees Northwestern's Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence (MSAI) program and the Center for Advancing Safety of Machine Intelligence (CASMI).

He was honored as a Fellow of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) in January 2023.

Kristian Hammond emphasizes humanizing computers to prevent the mechanization of people.

He completed his Ph.D. in Computer Science and his B.A. in Philosophy at Yale University.
