Dr. Krishna Ella is the Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Biotech International Limited, a prominent biotechnology company based in Hyderabad, India. Born in Tamil Nadu in 1969, Dr. Ella pursued his education in Agricultural Sciences before moving to the United States, where he earned his MS from the University of Hawaii and a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.123
In 1996, Dr. Ella founded Bharat Biotech with a vision to develop affordable vaccines for neglected diseases. Under his leadership, the company has developed several groundbreaking vaccines, including the world's first clinically proven and WHO pre-qualified Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine (TCV) and the most affordable Rotavirus vaccine.23 Bharat Biotech has delivered over 4 billion vaccine doses to more than 150 developing countries through partnerships with UNICEF, GAVI, and other organizations.1
Dr. Ella is also involved in various initiatives aimed at supporting Indian farmers through ventures like Biovet and Innova Food Park, which focus on animal health and food processing.12 He has received numerous awards for his contributions to science and industry, including recognition as the JRD Tata Best Entrepreneur of the Year and several innovation awards from the Government of India.1
In addition to his work at Bharat Biotech, Dr. Ella serves on multiple committees that influence India's science education and policy, including roles with the Scientific Advisory Committee to the Union Cabinet and the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research.2
