Kotaro Funato is an accomplished healthcare professional with extensive experience in medical affairs, immuno-oncology, and business strategy. Funato studied medicine and obtained his Doctor of Medicine and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from Tokyo Medical University, after which he went on to work as an attending physician at Tokyo Medical University Hospital and a postdoctoral fellow at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

He then transitioned into the business world, working as a consultant at McKinsey & Company before pursuing a Master of Business Administration in Business Administration, Management, Business Administration, and Management at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford. After completing his MBA, Funato held various leadership roles at Bristol-Myers Squibb and Biogen, including Global Medical Lead and Disease Area Head for Immuno-Oncology. Currently, he serves as the Managing Director of Health Industries Advisory at PwC Japan.
