Kiran Karnik is an accomplished technocrat, widely known for his exceptional contributions to the growth of the IT industry in India. Born on 25th August 1945, Karnik completed his education at the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai, and Princeton University, USA. He initially started his career as a journalist before transitioning to management, public policy, and governance.
Karnik has held several prestigious positions throughout his illustrious career. He served as the President of NASSCOM (National Association of Software and Services Companies), which is the industry association for IT-BPM companies in India. He was appointed the Director of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the Satyam Computer Services Board. Karnik has also played a key role in the formation of the UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) and UN Global Alliance for ICT and Development.
Apart from holding a string of high-profile positions, Karnik has also written several insightful books and articles on issues ranging from public policy to corporate governance. He has received numerous awards and accolades, including the Padma Shri, one of India's most prestigious national awards.
In his current role, Karnik is the Chairman of CII's National Committee on Governance, and he continues to actively contribute to debates on social, economic, and technological issues that impact the country's progress.
