Kevin Newman is an accomplished optical engineer specializing in the design and development of optical and opto-mechanical systems for LiDAR technology in autonomous vehicles. With expertise in geometric and physical optical design, tolerancing, optical bench testing, and collaboration with optical suppliers, Kevin is proficient in optical design software like Zemax and FRED, along with a strong background in Matlab. Kevin's professional journey includes a significant role in a biotechnology company in Palo Alto, CA, focusing on innovative imaging technologies for miniaturized microscope products. He holds a PhD in Optical Sciences from the University of Arizona, where his research, supported by a NASA Space Technology Research Fellowship, concentrated on technologies for direct imaging of extrasolar planets.
