Kevin Gibbons is the Executive Director and Co-Founder of Health Access Connect (HAC), a non-profit organization dedicated to improving healthcare access for remote communities in Uganda. He co-founded HAC in response to the significant healthcare challenges faced by residents in fishing villages around Lake Victoria, particularly the need for antiretroviral therapy (ART) and other essential health services.12
Background and Education
Gibbons has a strong academic background, holding a Bachelor of Science in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology from Tulane University and a Master of Science in Conservation Biology & Sustainable Development from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He also completed additional PhD coursework in Geography. His career includes three years of service with the U.S. Peace Corps in the Philippines, where he gained valuable experience in community development and grassroots organizing.34
Role at Health Access Connect
As Executive Director, Gibbons oversees various aspects of HAC, including program development, administration, monitoring and evaluation, fundraising, and communications. Under his leadership, HAC has implemented innovative programs such as the Medicycles program, which utilizes motorcycle taxis to deliver healthcare services to remote areas on a monthly basis. This initiative aims to provide vital services like family planning, immunization, and health education directly to underserved communities.12
Personal Life
Originally from Tampa, Florida, Gibbons is married to Nancy Rydberg and has expressed a passion for web design, developing websites for various organizations while focusing on clear communication.34
Through his work with Health Access Connect, Kevin Gibbons continues to make significant contributions toward enhancing healthcare accessibility for marginalized populations in Uganda.
