Kentwan Balmer, hailing from North Carolina, is a seasoned coach with a rich background in football. He made a name for himself as a Defensive Lineman, being one of the four selected in the 1st round of the 2008 NFL draft.
Throughout his playing career, Coach Balmer had the privilege of being under the mentorship of renowned coaches such as Pete Carroll, Mike Shanahan, Butch Davis, John Blake, Ron Rivera, and Dan Quinn. John Blake, a former Buffalo Bills Defensive line coach, praised Balmer for his intelligence and technical skills.
Balmer's collegiate career at UNC was decorated with accolades, ending as an All-American and All-ACC caliber player. His professional journey kicked off with the San Francisco 49ers who drafted him as the 29th overall pick in the 2008 NFL draft. He later excelled with the Seattle Seahawks, playing under Dan Quinn's defensive scheme and contributing to the team's success in the 2010 NFL playoffs.
Transitioning from his successful playing career, Coach Balmer ventured into coaching, starting at the high school level where he quickly achieved success. This paved the way for him to coach at the collegiate level, specifically at Shaw University. His role as the Shaw Bear's Defensive Line Coach and Special Teams Coordinator led to significant improvements in eight statistical categories.
