Assistant Professor at University of Central Florida

Dr. Kenle Chen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Central Florida (UCF).15 He joined UCF in 2018 after serving as an Assistant Professor at the University of Rhode Island for one year.1

    Dr. Chen's research focuses on:

    • Energy-efficient, wideband, and ultra-high-speed RF/mm-Wave circuits and systems for 5G-and-beyond communications
    • Extreme-performance power amplifiers in CMOS and compound semiconductor technologies
    • Reconfigurable RF/mm-Wave electronics
    • Innovational wireless radio concepts, architectures, and applications13

He leads the UCF INSPIRE (INtelligent, High-SPeed & Integrated Radio Electronics) Lab.3 In 2023, Dr. Chen received the prestigious NSF CAREER award for his research on "Non-Reciprocally-Coupled Load-Modulation Platform for Next-Generation High-Power Magnetic-Free Circulators".2

Before his academic career, Dr. Chen worked in the wireless and semiconductor industries. He was a Staff RFIC Engineer at Skyworks Solutions from 2015-2017 and held positions as Principal/Lead RFIC Engineer at innovative startups from 2013 to 2015.1

Dr. Chen earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University in 2013.5 During his graduate studies, he received the IEEE MTT-S Graduate Fellowship in 2012 and won multiple awards in "High Efficiency Power Amplifier" Student Design Competitions at IEEE MTT-S IMS in 2012 and 2013.1

His research group has continued to excel, winning multiple competitive best paper and design competition awards.1 Recently, UCF received a $1.5M NSF grant to improve energy efficiency in wireless communications, a project in which Dr. Chen is likely involved.4
