Ken Herts, a seasoned executive with a wealth of experience in the newspaper publishing and information services industries, currently serves as Director of Operations and Chief Operating Officer at The Lenfest Institute for Journalism. With over 29 years at Dow Jones and various senior leadership, finance, strategy, and technology roles, Ken has an exceptional track record in the journalism industry.
Before joining The Lenfest Institute for Journalism, Ken spent three years at Empirical Media, where he conducted market research and helped transform newspapers, magazines, websites, and other media clients into digital revenue stream companies. As the VP & General Manager of Dow Jones Newswires (later DJ Financial Markets Group), Ken helped the company transform into a $200+ million business unit producing newswires, newsletters, magazines, databases, and events for financial market participants. Additionally, he played a vital role in the restructuring of the printing and distribution operations of the Consumer Media Group at Dow Jones, a $1.1 billion business unit, which includes The Wall Street Journal and MarketWatch.
Ken received an MBA and an MS Journalism from Columbia Business School and Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism, respectively. Before his graduate studies, Ken studied at Brown University, where he received an AB.
