Kemal Akkoyun

Kemal Akkoyun is a seasoned Cloud-Native Software Infrastructure Engineer with a strong background in Site Reliability Engineering (SWE/SRE), mentoring, speaking, and blogging.

He is an open-source software developer and the maintainer of Thanos, actively contributing to the CNCF and Prometheus Ecosystem.

Kemal specializes in building tools for SREs and is continuously learning about Distributed Systems and Databases, with a focus on Observability, Reliability, Instrumentation, and Performance.

Outside of work, Kemal enjoys reading, working with dogs, building metal models and Lego sets, tasting single malts, and honing his coffee brewing skills.

With a diverse technical journey, Kemal has explored various programming languages including Lisp, Python, Java, Android, C#, iOS, Ruby, and Elixir, consistently working in the Cloud and being on-call since the early stages of his career around 2012.

He has an educational background in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, and Philosophy from renowned institutions like Boğaziçi University, Istanbul Bilgi University, and Middle East Technical University.

Currently, Kemal holds the position of Senior Software Engineer at Polar Signals, having previously worked at industry-leading companies like Red Hat, Meltwater, and Vispera Information Technologies in roles ranging from Software Engineer to Technical Team Lead.
