Keiko Tanaka

Keiko Tanaka is a distinguished professor at the University of Kentucky in the College of Agriculture, Food, and Environment. With a strong background in Sociology, she explores the impact of agricultural science and technology on global food systems.

Her research delves into the intricate dynamics between food production and consumption, touching on vital aspects such as food safety, healthy food choices, agricultural sustainability, and the importance of food localization.

Apart from her research endeavors, Keiko Tanaka shares her wealth of knowledge with students at the University of Kentucky. She teaches a variety of sociology courses for both undergraduate and graduate programs within the College of Arts & Science and the undergraduate program in Sustainable Agriculture within the College of Agriculture, Food, and Environment.

Keiko Tanaka's educational journey includes a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) and a Master's Degree in Sociology from Michigan State University. She also pursued an Associate's Degree in Sociology at Grand Rapids Community College and a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology at Aquinas College. Additionally, she expanded her academic horizon as a Visiting Graduate Student in China Studies at the University of Michigan.

Throughout her career, Keiko Tanaka has held various impactful roles at the University of Kentucky, including serving as the Interim Director of Graduate Studies in Community & Leadership Development, the Director of Graduate Studies in Sociology, and the Director of the University of Kentucky Asia Center. She has also contributed as an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Lecturer at the institution, showcasing her diverse expertise and leadership capabilities.
