Kathryn Segovia is the Head of Learning Experience Design for Executive Education at the Hasso Plattner Institute of Design at Stanford, also known as the d.school. She grew up on a farm in Nebraska, which instilled in her a strong work ethic and a passion for meeting new people. These skills have been beneficial throughout her career in both academia and industry.14
Kathryn discovered the d.school during her Ph.D. research and was profoundly influenced by the experience, particularly through the d.leadership course, where she later became a teaching assistant and eventually part of the teaching team. Her role involves leveraging her expertise in design processes, methods, and tools to support students and teams in overcoming challenges through design thinking.12
She holds a Ph.D. in Communication (2012), along with a Master's degree (2010) and a Bachelor's degree (2007) in Communication, as well as a Master's degree in Psychology (2007), all from Stanford University.1 In addition to her work at Stanford, Kathryn is an independent consultant with past clients including Steelcase and VF Corporation.1 She is also involved with the University of Nebraska Medical Center as an external advisor, contributing to the growth of design thinking in healthcare.3
