Kathi Vidal

Kathi Vidal is an accomplished lawyer and electrical engineer with an extensive background in intellectual property law. She holds a Doctor of Jurisprudence in Law from the University of Pennsylvania School of Law, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Binghamton University and a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Syracuse University.

Vidal's career began at Lockheed Martin, where she worked as an electrical engineer before transitioning to the legal field. She went on to clerk for Judge Schall at the U.S. Courts of Appeals before joining Fish & Richardson P.C. as the Global Head of Litigation and Management Committee Member. She later served as Silicon Valley Managing Partner, Executive Committee Member, Patent and Commercial Litigator at Winston & Strawn Llp.

Vidal is perhaps best known for her role as the Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the USPTO. During her tenure, she oversaw the issuance of over five million patents and did much to further the agency's mission of promoting innovation and technological advancement.

Vidal has also been involved with a number of organizations as a board member or advisory board member, including Disruptive Multimedia and CHIPS, a 501(c)(3) corporation. Her experience as an electrical engineer gives her a unique perspective on intellectual property law, making her a highly respected authority in the field.
