Katherine Zavala

Katherine Zavala is a purposeful and multilingual artist, with a strong knack for building relationships.

She currently leads the Latin American program at Thousand Currents, a grantmaking organization dedicated to supporting grassroots groups in the areas of Food Sovereignty, Alternative Economies and Climate Justice.

In her role, Katherine has excelled in strategic planning, grantmaking management, partnership-building, program expansion, intern and fellow recruitment, and fostering collaborations with peer funders and allies.

With over 13 years of experience in international development and global social justice, she has been a key player in promoting the voices of women, youth, and indigenous peoples-led grassroots groups and social movements.

Katherine also boasts 6+ years of experience in providing Spanish/English/Portuguese interpretation for various events, conferences, and meetings.

Her professional journey began in the hospitality industry, where she worked in Geneva, San Salvador, and Miami for 3 years.

Katherine's educational background includes studies at Greengates School, César Ritz Colleges Switzerland, Florida International University, Jakarta Intercultural School, and San Francisco State University.

She has held prominent positions such as Director of Learning Initiatives, Former Director of Grassroots Partnerships, Former Regional Director for Latin America, Program Manager, Program Officer, Coordinator of Programs, and Program Fellow at various organizations including Thousand Currents and International Development Exchange.

Additionally, Katherine gained valuable experience as a Microfinance Intern at Afedes Asociación Femenina Para El Desarrollo De Sacatepéquez.
