Katharine Burgess
Vice President, Urban Resilience at Urban Land Institute
Katharine Burgess is the Lead for ULI's Urban Resilience program, focusing on preparing cities, buildings, and communities for climate change impacts. With over fifteen years of urban planning experience in the US, UK, and Germany, she has led projects worldwide in master planning, research, land use, design project management, Smart Growth, urban design charrettes, and post-disaster recovery.
Katharine Burgess holds an MSc in Regional and Urban Planning from the London School of Economics and Political Science, as well as a BA in History and History of Art from Williams College. Her educational background complements her extensive professional experience in the field.
As Vice President of Urban Resilience at the Urban Land Institute, Katharine Burgess plays a pivotal role in driving initiatives that enhance urban resilience globally. She has previously served as Director and Senior Director of Urban Resilience at ULI, showcasing her leadership and expertise in the sector.
Throughout her career, Katharine Burgess has held key positions in various renowned organizations. She was a Fellow in Urban Planning at the Robert Bosch Foundation Fellowship Program and served as a Program Manager at the Landscape Architecture Foundation. Additionally, she contributed as a Senior Consultant at Turnberry Consulting Limited and held roles at Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company as Director's Fellow and Gulf Coast Project Coordinator.
With a diverse background that includes work as a Florence Chandler Research Fellow at Williams College and an Intern at the DC Preservation League, Katharine Burgess has amassed a wealth of experience and knowledge in urban planning and resilience.
