Kate Curran
Founder, School the World
Kate Curran is the Founder of School the World, an international education organization impacting the lives of thousands of children in Central America.
After leaving a successful legal career at General Electric, Kate embarked on a year-long sabbatical to travel the world where she was inspired to establish School the World.
Driven by the stark realities she witnessed in Tanzanian, Andean, and Zambian communities, Kate initiated School the World, which focuses on building schools, playgrounds, providing classroom resources, teacher training, and engaging parents in their child's education.
Under Kate's leadership, School the World has constructed 106 schools, 56 playgrounds, equipped 519 classroom libraries, trained over 3,200 teachers, and empowered nearly 7,000 parents.
Kate is the visionary behind the organization's nationally acclaimed education strategy, earning recognition from US AID, Education Ministers, and educational experts.
Apart from infrastructure, Kate emphasizes the importance of sustaining a robust book supply, teacher training, and parental involvement to create a conducive learning environment.
In addition to her work in Central America, Kate is spearheading a service learning program for high school students, allowing them to fundraise, build schools and playgrounds, and engage with underprivileged communities to understand the transformative power of education.
Since its inception in 2013, the program has seen the participation of nearly 900 high school students, termed as World Changers, with a remarkable return rate.
