Karen Tinsley-Kim
Helping online learners and instructors achieve academic success by providing digital UDL/accessibility training and service.
Karen Tinsley-Kim is an Instructional Technology Specialist at the University of Central Florida (UCF), where she has been working since August 2012. She is part of the Center for Distributed Learning (CDL) and plays a vital role in developing training programs for faculty and students to effectively use the Canvas learning management system. Her work focuses on enhancing online accessibility and Universal Design for Learning (UDL), which aims to provide equitable learning opportunities for all students.
With over two decades of experience, Karen has a diverse background that includes teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) and working as a graphic/web/media designer. She has also developed the UDOIT (Universal Design Online content Inspection Tool), which helps faculty identify and address accessibility issues in their online courses. This tool has received recognition, including a Higher Education Canvas Grant and an Effective Practice Award from the Online Learning Consortium.12
Karen's commitment to education is reflected in her ongoing involvement with international students and her efforts to improve digital accessibility in online learning environments. She holds CAT (Canvas Authorized Trainer) Levels 1 and 2 certifications, showcasing her expertise in utilizing Canvas for educational purposes.1
