Kannan is a former Vice President of Operations at Medvarsity Online Ltd and former Business Head: Digital at Varsity Education Management Private Limited. He has also worked in Pearson India as an AVP and Publisher for Higher Ed, Professional & ELT, and as a Senior Managing Editor for H.Ed and PTG.

Furthermore, Kannan has also worked for McGraw-Hill Education as an Editorial Executive-Commissioning, Alliance Française de Madras, and Dakshina Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha.
