Professor and Director, Department of Neurology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine
Justin McArthur is a distinguished figure in the field of neurology with a focus on the neurological manifestations of AIDS. He has accumulated over 30 years of expertise in researching various aspects of HIV infection on the nervous system.
Currently serving as the Director of the Johns Hopkins University National Institute of Mental Health Research Center for Novel Therapeutics of HIV-associated Cognitive Disorders, which he has been leading since 2005.
His research areas include neuroepidemiology, therapeutic development, clinical trials, and pathogenesis related to HIV-associated cognitive disorders.
McArthur's efforts aim to translate pathophysiological discoveries into innovative treatments for HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders (HAND). He has been a Principal Investigator or co-Investigator on multiple NIH-funded projects, developing new techniques and conducting trials to advance understanding and treatment of HAND and peripheral neuropathy.
His educational background includes a Master of Public Health (MPH) with a focus on Epidemiology from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in Medicine from the University of London.
Apart from his current position, he has served as a Professor at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and previously held the title of Professor and Director of the Department of Neurology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
