Julie Varghese is a seasoned professional with over 20 years of experience in various sectors, including nonprofit, healthcare, governmental, and cultural organizations. Currently, she serves as the Chief Operating Officer at the Atlantic Council, a position she has held since June 2021. In this role, Varghese oversees operations, finance, human resources, information technology, security, and legal affairs.12

She subsequently advanced to vice president for global events and external relations in 2016 and then to chief administrative officer in 2018 before becoming COO.12 Prior to her tenure at the Atlantic Council, Varghese spent nearly a decade as the director of special events at New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital, where she was responsible for significant fundraising initiatives and event programming.2
Varghese's extensive background also includes roles at prestigious institutions such as the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Smithsonian Institution. Additionally, she has experience working with high-profile political figures, having served on advance staff for Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, as well as Vice President Al Gore during their campaigns.12
She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science with a minor in History from the University of Pittsburgh.2
