Julia Liuson

Julia Zhenglei Liuson is a prominent technology executive, currently serving as the President of the Developer Division at Microsoft and overseeing GitHub. Born in 1970 in Shanghai, China, she moved to the United States for her education, earning a bachelor's degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Washington in 1991. Liuson joined Microsoft in 1992, where she has held various roles, including development manager and general manager for Visual Studio Business Applications.13

In her current role, Liuson leads product development and engineering teams for major Microsoft products such as Visual Studio, Visual Studio Code, and the .NET Framework. She has been instrumental in making the .NET platform open source and cross-platform, significantly enhancing Microsoft's engagement with the developer community.25 Her leadership has contributed to Microsoft's strategic shift towards embracing open-source technologies and fostering partnerships within the tech industry.23

Liuson has received several accolades throughout her career, including induction into the Women in Technology International Hall of Fame in 2019 and recognition as the Asian American Executive of the Year in 2013. She is also a board member at Cherre, a real estate data management platform.24 Liuson resides in Kirkland, Washington, with her family.1
