ShipStation is the leading web-based shipping software that is built to help online retailers organize and process their orders, while fulfilling and shipping them quickly and easily. With automatic order importing from over 75 shopping carts and marketplaces, including eBay, Amazon, Shopify, BigCommerce, Volusion, Squarespace, Stich Labs, and more, and automation features like custom hierarchical rules and product profiles, ShipStation helps online retailers ship out their orders from wherever they sell, however they ship.

Director of Product Engineering - ShipStation

Amplifier provides order fulfillment, logistics, and merchandise-on-demand services to Internet- indigenous content-creators and merch brands. We make, pick, pack, ship, and support our clients’ products, while amplifying their brand identity end-to-end. We've served brands such as The Onion, The Chive, Rooster Teeth, Homestar Runner, Despair.com, Mailchimp, LIVESTRONG, and more.

I joined Amplifier’s co-founders in 2001 to build and manage every aspect of Amplifier’s technology and development, spanning 15 years, 5 locations, 3-100+ employees, 30+ servers, 5+ core-business-system migration/integration projects (eCom, OMS, WMS, MRP, CRM), with service high-profile clients with rapid growth. Scaling a scrappy startup to a serious midsized business entailed "wearing all the hats" in an e-commerce logistics company.

Key contributions include:

• Scaled/enhanced legacy infrastructure through periods of rapid growth and very high transactional volume

• Guided system selection, implementation/integration of enterprise-class Order Management (OMS), Warehouse Management (WMS), and CRM/call-center systems

• Developed async, burstable, messaging-oriented integrations between these systems and multiple e-commerce platforms

• Built custom returns processing / RMA modules and automated workflow

• Built personalized print-on-demand / bespoke production manufacturing (custom calendars, greeting cards, on-demand personalized t-shirts)

• Developed suite of client-facing analytics, detailing all account activity (shipping, orders, inventory, returns, customer service)

• Developed client-facing self-service account admin portal

• Acted as product owner & technical architect for Amplifier and Merchify.com

• Recruited and managed Engineering, IT/Ops teams

• Implemented automated enterprise usage-based Billing/invoicing with online signup

Having built a self-sustaining engineering and IT organization, I moved into an advisory / consultative virtual CTO / Advisor role.

Before returning to a career in technology/software, I pursued a diverse liberal arts degree (History) while at UT, which included a minor in Computer Science and Business. During this time, I helped run IT Operations within the Department of Geological Sciences, managing multiple labs, server/desktop infrastructure, automated alerting and maintenance tasks, and helping streamline IT operations.

OnRamp Technologies was a Dallas-based Internet service provider founded by former Superconducting Super Collider engineers. OnRamp was eventually acquired by VERIO in 1997. Over my four years at OnRamp/VERIO (during high school), I progressed from a technical support role to a development/engineering role, learning networking, Linux/UNIX, and web development. More importantly, I experienced first-hand the rapid growth and acquisition of a successful Internet startup.
