Joy Barua, an experienced multi-sector professional, has an extensive and diverse background that spans across different industries. With a passion for tackling challenges, Joy's upbringing in several parts of the world has given him a broad perspective that he uses to approach problems.
Joy has a robust educational background having studied at Harvard Law School and Harvard Kennedy School, and Columbia University, where he was equipped with skills in negotiation, creating public value, leadership, and driving strategic impact. Additionally, Joy obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a Master of Arts in Organizational Change (MAOC) from Hawaii Pacific University.
Throughout his career, Joy has held leadership positions in various organizations, including the City and County of Honolulu and Kaiser Permanente, where he worked as the Senior Director, Government and Community Relations & Community Benefit as well as Managing Director, Community Benefit, Community Relations & Health Policy. Before this, he was CEO/Executive Director at Honolulu Community Action Program, Inc. (HCAP), where he also served as CFO/Director of Finance and CMO/Director of Planning, Development & Communications. Additionally, Joy was a lecturer at Hawaii Pacific University and worked as a project director and a business manager at Pacific Gateway Center, where he oversaw various projects.
