Joseph McNamara

Joseph McNamara is the Director of the Shields Center for Innovation at Boston College High School (BC High). He graduated from BC High in 2012 and later earned his degree from Babson College, where he focused on entrepreneurship and innovation.

In his role, McNamara leads initiatives aimed at developing action-oriented problem solvers among students, fostering an innovation mindset and entrepreneurial skills. The Shields Center emphasizes real-world problem-solving, encouraging students to identify unmet needs and create solutions through various programs, including the Shields Challenge, which focuses on community issues in Boston.12

McNamara also engages with local industries to enhance educational opportunities for students, connecting them with Boston’s economic ecosystem. He has been involved in organizing events such as panels on innovation in healthcare and summits on artificial intelligence in education.13
