app store search rankings are in serious need of improvement and apple needs to do something about it.
this QR code generator launched a week ago, used bots/phone farms to spam 80k fake downloads and now ranks in the top 3 for every meaningful keyword.
with those high rankings, they stay at the top since most users download the first apps they see. there are many such cases just like this across categories
how are small teams with high quality apps supposed to compete with this? the answer can't just be ASO or search ads.
i wish apple took this more seriously. its a huge problem and makes the app store worse for all involved.
