Joris Weijdom
Mixed Reality Researcher and senior lecturer at HKU University of the Arts Utrecht
Joris Weijdom is a distinguished researcher and designer specializing in mixed-reality experiences with a keen focus on interdisciplinary creative processes and performativity.
He holds a significant position as a lecturer at the renowned HKU University of the Arts Utrecht, where he established the Media and Performance Laboratory (MAPLAB), facilitating practice-led artistic research from 2012 to 2015 at the junction of performance, media, and technology.
Currently, Joris is at the helm of the Mixed-Reality research group within the Professorship Performative Processes, directing various BA and MA courses. Joris' educational background includes a Master's degree in Interactive Multimedia from the University of Portsmouth and a Bachelor's degree in Animation from HKU (Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht).
Throughout his career, Joris has taken on various key roles such as a researcher and senior lecturer at HKU, where he notably served as the Head of the Media & Performance Laboratory (MAPLAB). Prior to this, he led the research group Virtual Theatre at Utrecht School of the Arts and was a pivotal member on the advisory board of Stichting z25.org. Additionally, Joris has a foundation in multimedia as the founder of ARTIC Multimedia and has shared his knowledge as a teacher at Utrecht School of the Arts.
