Jordan Tappero, MD, MPH

Jordan Tappero is a highly accomplished public health executive who has had an impressive career managing people and overseeing various initiatives. With over 25 years of global health practice across four continents, including serving as a CDC Country Director for 14 years, Tappero has demonstrated his expertise in managing complex health emergencies, implementing HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, and neglected tropical disease prevention, and leading randomized clinical trials. Tappero's proficiency in working with Ministries of Health (MOH) and partners to build public health capacity in surveillance and outbreak investigation has made him an invaluable asset in strengthening national laboratory and diagnostic testing networks. Tappero's infectious passion for finding creative solutions and saving lives even in the most challenging environments has earned him the position of Senior Program Officer, Global Health, at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Prior to that, he served as Rear Admiral, US Public Health Service, at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and as Assistant Professor, School of Medicine, at the University of California, San Francisco. Tappero's training includes a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry and Medicine from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, an MD in Medicine from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, and an MPH in Epidemiology from the University of California, Berkeley.
