I am currently designing a web app to help beginning gardeners through the process of setting up and maintaining their own vegetable and flower gardens. Designing an app to augment a real-world activity has been an interesting and rewarding challenge, as extra care must be taken to ensure that the app won't just make the activity more tedious. 

Much of the initial user journey has been driven by my own gardening experience, In addition to that, I have been proactive in soliciting feedback from both interested newcomers and seasoned gardeners to determine exactly which pieces of information are the most crucial for a successful first season of planting. 

Participants were given a different survey to complete based on their level of experience. For absolute beginners, I asked basic questions about why they might want to start a garden, the kinds of things they're interested and growing, and what keeps them motivated on other long-term projects. More advanced participants were asked questions about how they go about researching how to take care of their plants and whether they were happy with the output of their gardens so far. 

I have also been careful to design the initial user journey to reflect the reality that planning a garden takes time and money. There may be days or weeks between a user deciding what they would like to plant and actually procuring the tools, seeds, dirt etc required to do so. Users will not be glued to the app every step of the way (nor should they! One of the key goals of encouraging people to garden is to help them become mindfully attuned to outdoor spaces), so breaking the project into manageable chunks without losing sight of the bigger goal is key.

It can be challenging to plan for the trial-and-error nature of gardening. Plants are living things, after all. If the app is a success, it will make the user feel as though they are in control of the outcome of their garden.

•   Visual designer for educational materials created as part of the company’s internal cybersecurity
education initiative. Created documents, infographics, and illustrations designed to teach important
cybersecurity safety tips in 3 minutes or less.
•   Complete redesign of the company’s cybersecurity education intranet website. Using Sharepoint, I 
built an easy to navigate repository of all of our team’s educational materials and video content. 
•   Facilitated workshops with our team’s counterparts from BB&T in the leadup to the corporate merger.

•  Designed and illustrated a New Year’s promotional mailer for existing clients to try a free sample of 
3 new visual design services that Depth Public Relations are offering in 2019.
•  Performed extensive client and market research to best understand Depth’s clientele and which design services would be most effective at helping both Depth and their client partners achieve their growth goals for 2019. 
•  Worked with Bennett Graphics to coordinate production, print, and delivery of the final artwork. Bennett has since submitted the final piece to the PIAG Print Excellence Competition 2019 in the die cut category.
•  Feedback from artwork recipients has been overwhelmingly positive. Within 30 days of delivery, 20%
of recipients had requested a trial of one of Depth’s new design services.

•   Performed exploratory user research and presented findings to stakeholder teams to drive decisions impacting product usability while being mindful of cost and development time
•   Created prototypes based on preliminary research & team feedback and performed usability tests with product users to ensure designs met their goals. Incorporated user feedback into design revisions.
•    Led an initiative within the Enterprise UX team to understand how better visual design on 
presentations and research readouts could improve communication within a balanced product team.

User Interface & User Experience Designer - Glass Eye Screenworks (2017)

 •  Led development of wireframe documents for the UI of an unannounced interactive tablet experience through iterative sketching and prototyping.
 •  Researched industry trends and gathered feedback from in-house creative and development teams to ensure utility and ease of use of interfaces developed.  

Illustrator & Graphic Designer - The Home Depot (2016-2017)

•  Developed a library of vector images, including character illustrations, prop, and background artwork, as a toolkit for in-house graphic and UX designers for use in storyboarding, presentations and animation. 
•  Interpreted heuristics and data-driven documents about web usage across desktop, tablet and mobile platforms, led development of infographics based on this data for use as visual reference by Home Depot’s User Experience team
