John Wei, PhD. MBA

John Wei is a seasoned professional in the venture capital and deep tech industry, currently serving as a Director at Applied Materials and managing investment activities in the Greater China region for Applied Ventures.

With a background in advanced materials, semiconductor manufacturing, industrial & enterprise software, energy, sustainability, manufacturing, and agriculture, John has extensive experience in various commercial and technical roles.

Prior to joining Applied, John was a key member of the SABIC Ventures investment team, where he led multiple investments across North America, Europe, and Greater China.

John's early career includes roles at The Linde Group and General Electric, focusing on industries such as petrochemical, power generation, alternative energy, and oil & gas.

John holds a Bachelor's and a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Tsinghua University and Rutgers University respectively, as well as a Master's in Computer Science from Rutgers.

Moreover, John has an MBA from UCLA with a concentration in Finance and Entrepreneurship. His educational background also includes studies at Harvard Business School and Harvard Law School.

Throughout his career, John has served on the boards of various organizations, including Cornami, Inc., Inpria, Electroninks Incorporated, Spectrum Materials Corporation Limited, and Leading Edge Equipment Technologies.
